I need a termite inspection and treatment at my vacation home in Joshua Tree, CA. I'm told it has both subterranean and airborne termites.

Of course, I'm leery of the expense and hassle of a full tenting fumigation. One pest control person that disappeared on me last year said he had an "expanding pesticide foam" that he could shoot into holes in the wall and it would expand and get to places the termites were living. He said that was a goof focused alternative to fumigation.

Do you offer that type of treatment... if it seems appropriate after an inspection?

One other concern is that I need to fit all this into the week I'm going to be in Joshua Tree. The dates I'll be there Feb. 28th thru March 4th.

Mike,

Call or e-mail us for a termite inspection and we will examine all the areas of your home that concern you. In general, drywood termites leave fecal matter or pellets under the areas where they have eaten your wood and subterranean termites leave mud tunnels as evidence of their infesting. Dry rot leaves the wood soft, spongy, and fibrous and is usually found around areas where their is excessive moisture (areas around plumbing or where rain water comes in contact with the wood on your home).

Michael,

Pellets or fecal matter falling from the wood timbers on your home are a sure sign of a drywood termite infestation. Mud tunnels around water sources (hot water heaters, under sinks, in sub areas where there are leaks, etc...) signigy a subterranean termite problem. Lastly, wood members that have a wet, fibrous, spongy feel where the wood is deteriorating are signs of dry rot. Call or e-mail us for an inspection and we will give you our professional opinion. Thank you.

Chloe,

You always have the right as the seller to have a company of your choosing inspect your home, so long as they are licensed by the Structural Pest Control Board. Afterall, you are the one responsible for paying to have the recommendations made on your home, in regards to termites and rot, satisfied. It also is a good idea to have a company unaffiliated with your buyer's agent inspect your property just to ensure evrything is on the up and up.

Sammy, termite damaged wood is evident from either blistering paint where the termites have eaten the wood underneath or from the fecal matter they leave behind (pellets) Dry rot or fungal damage is associated with escessive moisture and leaves the wood damaged with a wet spongy feel. Mariners Pest Control would be happy to come and inspect the areas that concern you. Thank you.

Dan,

As the products we purchase from require a state Operators License with the Structural Pest Control Board to apply, unfortunately we cannot sell any of them to you. However, our warranty covers visible and accessible areas of your home so it may be worth while to call us as some of the areas where you are noticing activity may be covered.

We used Mariner's. $1,200.00 worth a few months ago. They missed a lot. I'm repairing wood on the house. Will Mariners sell me a gallon of the orange oil so I can finish the job as I replace trim?

I just closed on my first house in Acton, CA. The seller of the house set-up two termite inspections from two different termite companies. The seller provided me with the highest in cost estimate. The repairs, according to the estimate, came close $8,000.

After some weeks, the escrow company gave me a very different inspection report along with the termite completion report to sign before closing. Their report came out to $3k worth of termite repairs.

The seller refuses to let me have a company of my choosing reinspect. Can I hire my own termite inspection company?
